This is the last day to comment on the CPSC instituting the Consumer Product Safety Information Act. The act does not yet consider the unique needs of craftmakers and craft programs. Crafters would have the same level of regulation and disclosure form requirements as, say Mattel. This is so wrong!
There are a wide range of materials that have been used for decades or even centuries in crafting, with no hint of toxic risks to the consumer. (Elmer's glue, yarns, etc.) We need to make a long list, and then protect crafters who use items from that list from having to comply with regulations intended to address lead in plastics by large factories. Right now, there is no such exemption.
Mom's rising is running a feedback campaign today. They were big supporters of the original legislation, but they realized the terrible unintended consequences.

And send this to all your craft friends and supporters, and maybe even your customer list, TODAY (2/17/09).
