Yarn Painting Class at Highland Alpaca

Postby Labbermom on Mon Jun 22, 2009 8:26 pm

Highland Alpaca has several spaces left for their Hand Painting Yarn Class on Saturday July 11. I have seen the yarn that you will make in class and it is gorgeous. See the details and price below.

This class is appropriate for teenagers and up. Highland Alpaca is 10 mins North from the Grove City Outlets. Spend the morning at the farm and the afternoon shopping at the outlets.

The farm is home to 90+ Alpaca. Bring your cameras, after class you will have the opportunity to spend time and feed the Alpaca in their pasture. Spring and Summer is also baby season. There are quite a few babies to see on the farm.

To sign up for the class email info@highlandalpaca.com. Winnie is a talented teacher and has taught classes at The Pittsburgh Knit and Crochet Festival.

Hand Painting Yarn
Date: July 11 9:00-Noon

Instructor: Wini Labrecque, Star Weaver Farm/SWF Fiber Innovations
Join us for this fun, colorful class as we learn the basics of dyeing. Handpainting your skeins gives you the opportunity to present something unique to your clients.

Participants will 'hand paint' a provided skein of alpaca yarn using acid dyes then heat set the dyes using a microwave. Participants will take home their hand painted skeins of yarn along with the skills necessary to do the task at home.

Different dye materials will be discussed including the advantages/disadvantages of each along with different techniques of dying the skeins. The effects of dyes on yarn blends will also be discussed with samples shown.

Participants should bring a large zipper type plastic bag in which to take home your damp skeins. Wear clothes you are not afraid to get dye on!!! Rubber gloves will be provided. Dyes will be pre mixed so masks are not necessary (technique will be discussed). An old towel is also recommended.

Class Fee: $40 per person includes yarns, dyes and all materials necessary to complete project during class.
Class limit: 20 students
