I think I am more of a facilitator of other people making homemade gifts. There is gonna be a lot of glass underneath the trees this year!
I actually am making 2 house numbers for my people (parents and friends) so I hope that they like them!

I think I may do tea towels. Some type of fancy needlepoint. I am horrible with hand stitching, so I am hoping to improve my skills with some of those easy Sublime Stitching patterns!

I made my 19 year old dd a pair of thermal knit jammies.

I purchased 4 oz. merino superwash sock yarn at Kimberlyr.com and traded soaps for beautiful knitted cable socks for my sister.

I purchased two skeins of http://www.threeirishgirls.com/catalog.php?item=156 and traded warming bags for teacher, family and husband gifting for labor of 2 pair of cable gloves.

I made my friend and pastor Souls Awakening cloth napkins.

I need to clear out the cut customs and finish finals week and I am hoping to do jammies for my two young sons also for x-mas.

People are getting cloth grocery bags from me, with embroidered pouches (Sublime Stitching patterns).

ohhhhh! I bought large amounts of fabric for cloth bags but never found the time to dive into them.
They would make great holiday gifts but I doubt I would have time to make any in time.

Christmas Break from College

Postby Opie on Fri Dec 12, 2008 8:38 pm

My oldest son is home from college, so he is coming over tomorrow to turn some wooden pens with me. I think I might talk him into making some for gifts for him to give for Christmas. I guess I won't charge him for the lessons I am giving him. It's a good bit of quality time for us together and that is enough of a present for me this year.

oh my gosh Opie! I book marked your page as I have some family that would love something like this in the future.

I am in awwwhhhh of your talent and the lessons learned you share with your son. I thought it was the coolest thing as a child to spend time with my dad turning my ash baseball bat. Your product is very refined, projecting skill and technique. I think they are wonderful.

Enjoy your time togther.

handmade

Postby eeni-ren on Sat Dec 13, 2008 1:14 pm

Oddly, for me this year it's crocheted scarves. I found this amazing blue color yarn - that matches the gray/blue eyes of the two friends I'm making this for. I think I'm going to embroider white snowflakes on them too before they're done...

Thank you eapoosmama for the nice words. Unfortunately my son never showed up today so I guess he had to meet some friends he has not seen in a while. I still did get a chance to make some more pens. I recently bought a coffee tree burl that looks awesome when turned. I will get the magnifying glass and pen up on my site soon if you want to look at it.

About a year ago, when we went back to North Carolina to visit the parents, my brother-in-law gave me some wood from a plum tree that was on my wife's grandparents property before some developer bulldozed the farm and turned it into tract homes. I am going to make a pen out of that plum tree so she can have a piece of her grandparents with her wherever she goes.

My dad is probably getting the coolest gift of anyone :-) I'm making him a book safe to hide his sweets. You know, you open up a book and after the first few pages there's a secret compartment...very old school spy-eqsue. I'm worried that I'll like it so much I'll want to keep it!
