Taking Your Business to the Credit Card Level

Postby neighborteaze on Sun Sep 07, 2008 2:32 pm

I just thought I'd share some helpful info: for those of you that do craft markets, etc, and would love to process your orders via credit card -- you can buy manual imprinters, the slips, and the plate, but processing the actual payments -- I had no idea how to do that! Turns out you can use paypal virtual terminal or similar versions via google and amazon, BUT the best rate is via PNC Bank, with the lowest monthly fee of about $20, and the lowest interest charge per each transaction as well. The catch: You have to sign up for a 3-year agreement.

A lot of us actually use a site called ProPay. You can get the small business rates -- running you about $59 for the year. It's totally worth it and have made back the cost and then some in the first two shows...

Can I ask you which plan you have, and what you might recommend for me? I think that at most, at least right now, I would use it four times a year..
Do you have the propary premium card, or just transfer funds to your bank account?

i am not sure if you are on Etsy or not, but the Premium account that they offer is $29.95 a year for small business owners. which is well worth the cost. it's paid for itself in the number of sales, both at shows and international.

here is the link:

wow! thats a great deal -- I dont have an etsy account yet, but I should! this should motivate me to do it! Do you have the card reader? Does it freak customers out if you send in the credit card info via a cell phone?
thanks!!!

i have a "knuckle buster" which is the manual credit card reader. there is a really cool electronic one, but it is a much bigger expense and not quite worth it yet.

i don't call them in at the show, i wait until i get home. and i have never had an issue. you just need to make sure you take a phone number or address/email to get in touch again.

if you are looking for supplies - Mr Imprinter on Ebay is a good one. And a few others. Just do your research.

ProPay

I also use ProPay, and it's been working really great for me - so one more vote of confidence. One thing to note, though - is be sure to get the buyer's zip code (you won't be able to run their card without it), and their phone number. I once had a card be declined, and had to call the person to get a different card number. They were really nice about it, but boy was I glad I had their phone #! :)
