Fun-a-day Pittsburgh :-)

Postby MaggieCraft on Thu Dec 11, 2008 9:25 am

Well this isn't quite crafty, but it definitely could be! I signed myself up for a project that asks participants to pick one thing to do every day in january to help beat the winter slump.

Borrowed from the website:

"Pittsburgh winter bumming you out? Don't let it! Here's something to do.

Starting January 1st pick a project and do it every day for the month. It doesn't have to be hard, but it should be something to motivate you to stay creative, social, and stoked during the cold turn of the new year.

Ideas can range from something such as writing a poem every day, solving a riddle daily, taking an epic hike/bike ride, photographing a different stranger, drinking a different beer/soda a day (or making a different craft, knitting with a different yarn, working with a new material, etc etc etc)

Then, sometime in late February/early March there will be an art show to celebrate everyone's work. Location TBA, pending on how many people participate. More people, bigger space!

Get creative! There are no bad ideas!

Please e-mail funadaypgh@gmail.com with your project ideas."

neat!

This seems like such a neat idea! Sort of a combination of self-discipline with crafting - and I love that it's more about FUN than about slogging through that to-do list. I'll have to think about what I want to do...

Anyone else? Would love to hear what other folks are thinking about doing...!

This seems like something I could love to participate in and I have something I have been wanting to do for a long time but with life and current projects I never make the time.

Yah --- thanks for the motivation.

This is my idea in case anyone needs inspiration:

Go to a different Pittsburgh place (bar, restaurant, landmark, museum, neighborhood, street, cemetery, etc) every day and document a quickie sketch/observation of the area or something specific I see. Each day will get a half page and when I'm done, I can arrange all the sketches in the form of a calendar :-)

I'm excited about this because I always drive past neat places on my way to and from work and think, "gee I should go there sometime!" but then I never do. Tango cafe was one of them, and now apparently it's closing??? ugh! If nothing else, that kicked my butt into gear :-p

Anyone else know what they're doing?
